Dynamic Spectrum Access: The Capacity Trade-off

چکیده

Since 2000, cognitive radio has slowly been moving from theory into reality. One major driving force for that is tangible commercial applications for cognitive radio, the most major of which is dynamic spectrum access (DSA). A wide variety of DSA techniques have been proposed, in an effort to take advantage of every ounce of unused spectrum. This paper analyzes the three main approaches: frequency coexistence, time coexistence, and interference coexistence. An ideal radio would employ all three to fully exercise all the available spectrum, however each in many scenarios it’s often not worthwhile to do much more than basic dynamic frequency selection. We analyze the different scenarios and provide guidance on when different approaches are practical.

Modeling the Trade-off between Manufacturing Cell Design and Supply Chain Design

Nowadays, we are witnessing the growth of firms that distribute the production capacity of their products to a wide geographic range to supply the demand of several markets. In this article, the relationships and interactions between cell design and supply chain design are investigated. For this purpose, a novel integrated model is presented for designing dynamic cellular manufacturing systems ...

Capacity price decisions, a manufacturing yield management perspective

This paper focuses on formulating capacity-price trade off problem in Yield Management for manufactur-ing industry by drawing motivation from the remarkable success of Yield Management (YM) implementation in airlines. In the current practice, there is no alternative and procedure for the manufacturer, as well as cus-tomers to take advantage of using the unfulfilled capacity in discounted offers...

SAW: Spectrum Assignment for WLANs

1 We consider the problem of jointly allocating channel centerfrequencies and bandwidths for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs). The bandwidth used on a link significantly affects both the capacity experienced on this link and the interference produced on neighboring links. Therefore, when jointly assigning both center frequencies and channel widths, a trade-off must be found between interferenc...

Fair greening of broadband access: spectrum management for energy-efficient DSL networks

Dynamic spectrum management (DSM) is recognized as a promising technology to reduce power consumption in DSL access networks. However, the correct formulation of power-aware DSM problem statements requires a proper understanding of greening, i.e., reducing power consumption. In this paper, we, therefore, investigate greening and show that it can be decomposed into two dimensions: the price of g...
